Frequently asked questions about NiersStrom
I would like to switch to NiersEnergie GmbH. What do I have to do?
We'd be happy to help you switch providers. Just bring your most recent annual bill with you. We'll work with you to determine which rate plan is right for your electricity needs, fill out the electricity service application with you if you'd like, and take care of the rest.
Alternatively, you can set up the appropriate electricity supply contract for residential and commercial electricity or the electricity supply order for heat pump or thermal storage electricity directly, fill it out, and send it to us.
If the change is related to moving in or moving out, please be sure to observe the applicable deadlines. You can find all the relevant information on our page Planning a move?.
Do I need an appointment for a consultation?
No. You can simply stop by during our business hours. You don't need an appointment.
My apartment or house has electric heating. What do I need to keep in mind when signing up for electricity service?
If your apartment or house has more than one electricity meter, a separate contract is required for each meter.
If consumption data is not yet available, we can use estimated values for the first advance payment calculation. After the first annual billing statement, the advance payment will be adjusted based on your actual consumption.
I'm moving and would like to have NiersEnergie provide service at my new address. What do I need to keep in mind?
Please contact us as early as possible. Retroactive registrations are not permitted.

Who reads the meter reading on the changeover date?
With the confirmation that we may supply you in the future, you will also receive a form from us on which you should note the meter reading yourself on the changeover date. Please send us this form as soon as possible.
Can there be an interruption in the power supply on the day I switch to NiersStrom?
No, there will be no interruption to the power supply. You will not notice the change in your household.
Can I change my estimated payment?

Please note: If the estimated payment is set too low, you may be required to make an additional payment when the annual bill is issued.
The number of people in my household has changed. Do I need to report this?
A change in the number of people in your household may affect your electricity usage. If you'd like, we'd be happy to check whether your estimated bill still matches your projected usage.

I received a meter reading request from Westnetz, or a meter reader working on behalf of the utility company wants to read my meter. Is that correct?
Yes. Westnetz is responsible for operating the power grid and handling technical tasks in Kevelaer. This includes collecting meter readings. Therefore, you may receive a request for a meter reading directly from Westnetz, or an authorized meter reader may visit your home.
Do I have to take the meter reading for the annual bill myself?
Yes. At the end of the year, we will send you a meter reading card. Please take a reading at the turn of the year and return the completed card to us.
What happens if I don't report my meter reading at the end of the year?
If we do not have a meter reading on file, we will estimate the reading at the end of the year based on your previous usage.
The meter reading at the end of the year was estimated too high or too low. What should I do now?
Once you receive your annual bill, please send us a brief email or letter with your customer number and the correct meter reading. We will verify the amount and adjust your annual bill accordingly.
When will I receive my annual invoice?
You will generally receive your annual financial statements at the end of January of the following year.
Since the annual financial statements are prepared in January, no estimated payment is due this month.
I need a copy of the annual financial statements. What do I need to do?
Just give us a call or send us a quick email. We'd be happy to send you a copy of your annual financial statements.
