Basic income support in old age and in the event of reduced earning capacity - Chapter 4 SGB XII
Service description
Older persons and persons with permanent full incapacity for work who are habitually resident in Germany and who are unable to cover their necessary living expenses from their income and assets are entitled to basic income support in old age and in the event of reduced earning capacity upon application.
Persons born before January 1, 1947 reach the age limit at the age of 65. For persons born after December 31, 1946, the age limit is raised as follows:

The income and assets of the non-separated spouse or partner and of the partner in a marriage-like or civil partnership-like relationship must be taken into account.
If a child or the parents together have a total annual income of 100,000 euros or more, there is no entitlement to basic security benefits.
Whether and to what extent you receive social assistance benefits depends on
- the number of family members in your household - single household
- the amount of the accommodation costs
- the amount of the costs for health insurance
- the level of family income and existing assets.
Required documents
- Application for basic security benefits (will be recorded on site)
- Identity card or passport
- Severely disabled person's pass, if available
- Residence permit for foreigners
- Bank statements for the last 3 months
- Rental agreement and last rent increase, if applicable
- last operating and heating cost statement from the landlord
- Income documents, e.g. wage and salary receipts, child benefit notice, housing benefit notice, pension notice, maintenance payments, etc.
- Property documents, if available, e.g. savings book, certificate of deposit, extract from the land register for house and apartment ownership, vehicle registration document
- Current classification of the heating energy supplier
- Notice of employment from the Jobcenter, if benefits were previously received from there
- Certificate of appointment (only applies to supervisors)
The required documents will be copied after submission.
In individual cases, further evidence may be required for processing.
