    The Office for the Assumption of Maintenance is responsible for examining, determining and enforcing maintenance claims for recipients of benefits under SGB II, SGB XII and the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, including

    • Maintenance for underage and adult children
    • Maintenance for separated and divorced spouses

    The ability to pay maintenance is a prerequisite for the person liable to pay maintenance. For example, the person concerned is obliged to pay maintenance to children or spouses if they are unable to meet their necessary living expenses from their own resources.
