Service description
Health assistance in accordance with Chapter 5 of SGB XII includes
- Preventive health care
- Help with illness
- Help with family planning
- Help with pregnancy and maternity
- Help with sterilization
The scope of application of healthcare assistance under SGB XII is very limited because, in view of the subordinate nature of social assistance, benefits are only provided for people who do not have statutory or sufficient private health insurance, do not have any other health insurance cover and do not receive health treatment from the health insurance fund.
Preventive health assistance is available to persons who wish to take advantage of a preventive service for the prevention and early detection of illnesses or who, in the opinion of a doctor, are at risk of becoming ill or suffering other damage to their health.

cover special circumstances or qualified emergencies that are caused, for example, by illness or disability. Benefits in accordance with these chapters do not compete with the subsistence benefits in accordance with Book II of the Social Code. In principle, they are therefore also available to the group of people entitled to these benefits.
The assistance listed above is provided if the beneficiaries, their spouses or partners who are not separated and, if they are minors and unmarried, their parents or one of their parents cannot reasonably be expected to raise the funds from their income and assets.
