Responsibilities
Notes
As the name suggests, the technical department deals with all technical and practical matters relating to water, wastewater and civil engineering in the city. This results in a varied and no less extensive range of tasks.
The water division includes both the waterworks and the drinking water pipe network. The main task of the waterworks is the treatment of drinking water. However, it also includes monitoring groundwater levels and the water protection zone, as well as maintenance and minor repair work. Drinking water is transported from the waterworks to households and drinking water consumers via the drinking water pipes. Employees maintain, renew and lay new pipes to ensure that citizens have access to running water at all times.
As soon as the drinking water is taken from the tap, it becomes wastewater and is discharged via sewers. The wastewater department checks the condition of the wastewater systems and takes care of maintenance, renewal and new installation. However, not only sewers are maintained, but also pumping stations with electrical components. Wastewater includes not only domestic or commercial wastewater, but also rainwater from rain events. The tasks therefore also include the maintenance of rainwater retention basins and water law issues, such as discharge permits into bodies of water.
The daily road inspections, during which damage is recorded and repair work or complete renewals are commissioned accordingly, belong to the civil engineering division. This also deals with the complete expansion of roads. Other tasks include the maintenance of playgrounds and sports fields as well as roadside greenery and bridges and culverts in the urban area.
