Notes
The urban planning department directs the spatial development of the urban area through various plans. Some of these plans, such as the land use plan or the development plans, undergo a formal procedure in which public bodies and citizens are involved. In order to start such a procedure, a conceptual idea must be translated into a plan.
The geographic information system (GIS) helps to collect all the necessary information. It contains extensive data on traffic and waterways, buildings and more, which is regularly updated. Based on this data, a draft is created that is digitized before the formal procedure begins. In addition to the formal planning processes, the department also supports informal planning such as urban core renewal or village renewal measures, which mainly concern the design and use of public spaces. Other planning activities include transport issues.
The Urban Planning department is also responsible for issues relating to housing entitlement certificates, climate protection, mobility and environmental protection.
