Service description
If you move out of an apartment and do not move into another apartment in Germany, you must deregister.
The most important cases are the deregistration of a secondary residence or moving abroad.
If you move within Germany, you do not have to deregister. It is sufficient to register with your new municipality.

Required documents
The following documents are required:
- Identification documents of all persons to be deregistered
Special information for - City of KevelaerIf you wish to deregister your secondary residence, this must always be done at the registration office of your main residence.
Prerequisite
The following requirements must be met:
- permanent departure from the main residence without moving into a new main residence in Germany or
- final abandonment of the secondary residence.
In the case of persons under the age of 16, care must be taken to ensure that they are deregistered by the person from whose home they are moving out.
Procedure
The procedure is as follows:
Personal:
- speak to the competent authority in person and
- present the identification documents.
In writing:
- submit the deregistration form or declare your departure informally in writing,
- enclose certified copies of the identity documents of all persons to be deregistered.

What deadlines do I have to observe?
