Rats
Service description
If you notice rats on your property or on the street, you can report this to the "Safety and Order" department.
The responsible employee then commissions a specialist pest control company.
The pest controller is on duty in Kevelaer every Thursday.
Prerequisites for working with you:
- Private household
- Someone must be at home on Thursday mornings. This can also be a neighbor or another person.
This information is required from you and passed on to the specialist company:
- Names
- Address
- Telephone number (for any queries)
- Where have rats been sighted (or signs of rats)
The pest controller can only be appointed for your own property or public roads. For rat control on neighboring properties, the respective owners or tenants must register themselves.
What else should I know?
Rats have a radius of action of around 50 meters when they are foraging and find food in this area. It is therefore important to avoid anything that could provide rats with a food supply.
- Do not dispose of leftover food in the toilet, but put it in the residual waste garbage can.
- Do not dispose of kitchen waste such as peelings from potatoes, apples etc. in the compost heap, but in the organic waste garbage can.
- Store garbage and waste in tightly closed containers until the next emptying.
- Remove fallen fruit from the garden immediately.
- Do not feed songbirds all year round, as the bird food also attracts rats.
- Do not feed pigeons or ducks.
- Avoid keeping rabbits and chickens in the garden if possible, as the animal food also attracts rats.
- Do not store animal feed in the open, but in tightly sealed containers.
- Do not simply throw leftover food carelessly on the street or in green areas, but dispose of it properly in the waste bin.
- Seal buildings and structures (garden sheds) "rat-proof" to prevent rats from entering and nesting.
- As a precautionary measure, the (subsequent) installation of so-called rat traps made of metal in the drain pipe of the toilet is recommended.
