Notes
The Local Audit Department used to be called the Audit Office and is certainly one of the least known organizational units in the city administration. Nevertheless, local auditing fulfills a very important function. It checks whether administrative tasks are carried out properly, economically and efficiently in order to protect the administration from financial losses or undesirable developments. One of the main tasks is to check the accounting transactions that are ultimately summarized in the annual financial statements.
However, the accompanying audit with advisory activities is also increasingly becoming the focus of the audit, as this may prevent errors before they occur. This also includes optimizing the structures and processes within the administration with a process-oriented audit.
The tasks of the local audit are derived from the municipal code of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, some special laws and the audit regulations of the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer.
