From June 6, it will be possible to switch electricity providers within 24 hours on working days - this is provided for by a new legal regulation. However, the prerequisite for this is that existing contract terms and notice periods allow this. Anyone who is still contractually bound must therefore initially comply with the regular notice period as before. "The legal requirement creates new requirements - and therefore unfortunately also more organizational pressure for our customers," explains Hendrik Kruß, Head of the Service and Transport Department at Stadtwerke Kevelaer and contact person for NiersEnergie GmbH. "Early planning will become even more important in future, especially when it comes to relocations."
Observe deadlines - avoid paying twice
In order to implement the new legal requirements on time, NiersEnergie is currently adapting its internal systems. For this reason, retroactive registrations and deregistrations can only be processed up to and including May 23. From May 24, a lead time of at least ten working days is required. "Anyone who does not cancel or reregister their electricity contract in good time runs the risk of continuing to pay electricity costs for an apartment that has already been vacated - in the worst case, even for the consumption of the next tenant," notes Kruß. In addition to the meter number, customers will also need the so-called MaLo-ID (market location identification number) to register in future. This eleven-digit number can be found on the electricity bill and clearly assigns each consumption point. NiersEnergie will continue to provide advice - by telephone, online or in person at the water tower on Kroatenstraße. "We are happy to help so that the changeover goes quickly and smoothly," emphasizes Kruß.
