The Kevelaer youth employment agency shows how effective practical education can be: Together with Agrobusiness Niederrhein e. V. and the Kleve Vocational Training Center (BBZ), a creative and sustainable learning project was developed from waste wood that should have been disposed of. What was left over as transport timber from regional companies was processed at BBZ Kleve, turned into construction kits and then handed over to the young people at the KOMPASS youth center.
Experience craftsmanship - develop skills
In three joint sessions, the young people from the gardening club at Kevelaer comprehensive school and participants in the BBZ's vocational preparation measures built four complete raised beds. From sanding, drilling and screwing to the colorful design, the young people took care of every step themselves - and gained valuable manual and social experience that will benefit them in their everyday working lives.
Four raised beds, two learning spaces - two gifts
Two raised beds each remain with the Garten-AG and the BBZ. In addition, both groups decided to give away one each. The Garten-AG gave its raised bed to the municipal kindergarten "Spatzennest". Mayor Dominik Pichler emphasizes: "This project shows how valuable regional cooperation is. Something sustainable, beautiful and meaningful has been created from a supposed waste product - created by young people who are learning practically and doing something good at the same time."
A project that gives courage
The cooperation between Jugendberufsagentur Kevelaer, Agrobusiness Niederrhein e. V., BBZ Geldern and Gesamtschule Kevelaer shows how successfully the circular economy, education and commitment can work together. Marcus Trappe (Agrobusiness Niederrhein e. V.) adds: "This has shown that the circular economy is not just a concept, but works in practice. Waste wood became an educational project - and in the end a gift."
