Spring cleaning 2026
Collecting garbage and ending the day together
On Saturday, March 21, 2026, the waste collection campaign "Spring Cleaning" will take place again in Kevelaer. The aim of the campaign is to keep streets and green spaces in Kevelaer clean and to promote awareness of a clean environment and waste avoidance. Clubs, school classes or work colleagues are invited to join small groups to collect litter lying around in the countryside. The town of Kevelaer provides bin bags and gloves for participants on request. The collected waste is taken to agreed collection points and then collected and disposed of by employees of the depot.
Restaurants support the campaign: a meal together as an incentive to take part
The campaign is initiated by Kreis-Kleve-Abfallwirtschaftsgesellschaft GmbH (KKA). The pilgrimage town of Kevelaer has been supporting this campaign for several years and has been able to acquire a number of catering establishments for this time, which will offer participating groups a meal at a reduced price after collecting the garbage. This offer applies to smaller groups of four to eight people. The groups can register in advance and receive a discount card for a restaurant on the day of the campaign.
This is how the registration works:
If you would like to take part, please register by 17.03. by e-mail at umweltschutz@kevelaer.de with the following details:
- Number of people (for the discounted meal: 4-8 people)
- Period (morning or afternoon)
- Desired waste collection area
You will then receive a confirmation with the assigned collection area and one of the participating restaurants in your area, which you can visit at the end of the campaign.
On the day of action:
On the day of the campaign, participants meet up with their group at the collection point and receive bin bags and gloves on request. If you have registered for the meal in advance, you will receive a discount card for the restaurant. After the garbage collection campaign, the garbage bags are handed in at the collection point and the participants can make their way to the restaurant and round off the campaign day with a meal together.
In addition, the group can also register with the KKA, where prizes are awarded per category. Further information can be found at https://kkagmbh.de/fruehjahrsputz
Please observe the following instructions to make your actions easier and safer:
- Only carry out collection campaigns in safe areas, especially with children!
- Pay attention to traffic when collecting along roads! It is best to wear a high-visibility vest
- Use suitable protective gloves when collecting, as there may be shards or sharp objects in the grass or leaves.
- Please inform the public order office, Tel.: 02832 122-832, E-Mail: ordnungsamt@kevelaer.de, if you:
- used syringes,
- Hazardous waste (batteries, filled oil canisters, etc.). These must not be disposed of with the residual waste; they must be collected separately as hazardous waste.
- find wild garbage dumps.
- Make sure that your collecting activities have as little impact as possible on the flora and fauna. The first birds start building their nests in early spring. Please do not collect off the paths and leave undergrowth, bushes and shrubs to the birds.
- When collecting, please pay particular attention to amphibians or other animals that often hide in garbage (especially in old tires, under bags and tarpaulins...) and relocate them if necessary.
Thank you very much and have fun collecting!
